CFOV Celebrates 35th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe, but the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary! On November 13th, 2007, donors, board members, grantees, and the general public came together to celebrate this milestone at the Fort Henry Club in downtown Wheeling. Following a brief video about the foundation, outgoing board president, C.J. Kaiser, spoke about the accomplishments of the past several years. Mr. Pat Getty, president of the Benedum Foundation, was the keynote speaker of the event discussing the importance of philanthropy. Incoming board president, Jerome B. Schmitt, wrapped up the program with his plans for the future of the Community Foundation. Shannon Cunningham and Frank Bonacci of West Virginia Grantmakers also presented a study on giving trends in the Mountain State.

The great thing about community foundations is that they are intended to last forever. “A Fund for All Time,” as we say. With proper investment and oversight, community foundations will continue to serve their donors and the community for years.

If you were unable to attend the event, you can view the video about the Community Foundation at the foundation’s Web site:

Overall it was a wonderful evening to celebrate the past accomplishments of the Community Foundation and look forward to the possibilities of the next 35 years.
