CFOV Awards Scholarships
$243,379 in Scholarships Awarded to Ohio Valley Students for 2019-20 Academic Year
The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) is pleased to announce more than 150 area students will be attending colleges and universities across the country with support from the Foundation’s scholarship funds.
CFOV administers over 70 scholarship funds, each with a competitive application process. This year, the Foundation will grant nearly $250,000 in scholarship awards to 153 students who will be attending higher education institutions of all types.
Scholarships are made possible by generous donors who have established funds to demonstrate a commitment to higher education and often represent memorials for loved ones, an affinity for a field of study, school/university, intended career path, financial need and even being a first-generation college student.
“We continue to celebrate scholarships and the role they can play in making higher education more affordable for area students. Donors find this type of giving to be particularly meaningful and a scholarship fund can fulfill charitable wishes quite well,” said Susie Nelson, executive director of the Community Foundation.
The 2019 scholarship season included the launch of new scholarship funds, including opportunities honoring family legacies and a partnership with the EQT Foundation for the benefit of students in Belmont County. Demand for scholarship support remains high as the application volume increased 40% over 2018 figures.
“Scholarships represent just one form of philanthropy and philanthropy in any form makes the Ohio Valley stronger and we wish our scholarship recipients the best as they arrive on campus. It is our hope these recipients choose to make the Ohio Valley home once their degree has been earned,” Nelson shared.
