Affiliate Fund Created for the Benefit of Belmont County Ohio

For Immediate Release

Partnership created between Smith Goshen Group, Rice Energy, & Community Foundation

Wheeling, WV ─ The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) announced today the establishment of an Affiliate Fund to provide grantmaking support to nonprofit organizations that support Belmont County, Ohio.  The Affiliate Fund will be called the Smith Goshen Rice Enrichment Fund (SGREF).  The first gift to the Fund was received from Rice Energy in the amount of $25,000.

The Affiliate Fund is designed as a tool to help individuals and corporations realize the benefits of philanthropy in their local community.  All contributions to the SGREF will go towards a long-term sustainable fund for the benefit of the county.  An initial advisory committee has been established to work to determine the greatest needs in the county and how grant funds will be distributed.  Once a large enough pool of funds has been raised for the Affiliate Fund, grant applications will be available to the nonprofit organizations in the counties.

While donations to the SGREF are encouraged, individuals may also consider their own philanthropic goals by establishing a fund of their own.  Other types of funds that are available include scholarship funds, donor advised funds, and agency endowment funds.  With all of these types of funds, gifts to establish them are fully tax-deductible in the tax year in which they were created.

“We are encouraging anyone who may want to contribute to the well-being of Belmont County to consider making a gift of any size to the SGREF,” said Susie Nelson, Executive Director of the Community Foundation.  “These funds will be a benefit to Belmont County for many, many years if residents and corporations can all come together to support it.”

“Marcellus Shale is providing our region with new wealth never before imagined.  It is important to consider how this new wealth can create a legacy that will last and continue to be a benefit to this region for years to come – even after this gas boom is over,” continued Nelson.

Any individual or corporation can donate to the Smith Goshen Rice Enrichment Fund by making a check payable to the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley and designating “SGREF” in the memo line of the check.  Checks may be mailed to CFOV, PO Box 670, Wheeling, WV 26003.  Unique gifts such as appreciated stock, gas royalties, and other assets may also be gifted to the funds.  For more information, donors may call CFOV at 304-242-3144 or email
