The advisory committee of the Stealey Community Fund has announced 2023 grant awards, which total $366,713.39 and will support 15 projects in Tyler County, with a special focus on Middlebourne.
The fund has made grant awards possible for more than 20 years, allocating more than $3 million since its inception. The Stealey Community Fund is administered by the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley. An established advisory committee reviews submitted applications and makes award recommendations.
Ruth Stealey Green, the fund’s benefactor, stipulated projects must benefit the Middlebourne-area community. Special consideration is to be given to programs and projects that will improve the quality of life of the residents of Middlebourne, such as improved library, recreational, municipal and youth services. Green was a retired teacher who died at the age of 84 on February 14, 1996, at her home in Middlebourne. She created the fund in honor of herself and her brother, Philip Stealey, who died in 1993.
Projects awarded through this grant cycle will enhance a wide variety of community and school-based opportunities and programs.
