Community Foundation announces 2016 Amazing Raise Ohio Valley

April 4, 2016 – WHEELING, WV   – The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley has officially announced the 3rd Annual Amazing Raise Ohio Valley.  This community-wide, 24-hour online giving event will begin at 12:00 am on Tuesday, May 3rd  and end at 11:59 pm.  During the 24 hours, every donation made on the event website, www.giveov.org, will be enhanced with bonus dollars and cash prizes sponsored by the Foundation’s funding partners.

“We had such a positive response from both donors and the nonprofits over the past two years, we decided to do it again,” said Susie Nelson, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

The Amazing Raise Ohio Valley was born out of Give Local America, an initiative created by the Council on Foundations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first community foundation.  Over 100 community foundations participated on May 5, 2015.  In 24 hours, 375,000 gifts from all across the globe brought in $68,500,000 for nonprofit communities in nearly every region of the country.

Locally, ninety-eight nonprofits participated in 2015.  In 24 hours, over $426,000 in donations and prizes were received by all of the participating nonprofits. A minimum donation of only $10 enables a majority of the public to give to several of their favorite causes.

“The Amazing Raise represents the best in our community. Thousands of individuals answer the call to help the many nonprofit organizations who provide essential services to our community. It is one of the compelling things about living in the Ohio Valley. Everyone wins when our entire community comes together to help one another,” said Staci Stephen, Director of Development at Augusta Levy Learning Center, one of the many nonprofit organizations who have raised significant funds over the years through the Amazing Raise

According to Giving USA, which tracks charitable giving in the United States, online giving grew 10.2 percent per year over the past two years, making it the fastest growing platform in philanthropy.  The Amazing Raise Ohio Valley is an initiative to increase philanthropy in the Ohio Valley, while building capacity for online fundraising and marketing for our region’s charities.
